Frequently asked Questions

How do I apply for support?

You can apply for support directly through our online application form. We aim to keep the process simple, respectful, and accessible for individuals and families going through difficult circumstances.

How quickly will I hear back?

Response times can vary depending on application volume and available funding, but we do our best to review requests as quickly as possible. Urgent needs may be prioritized when feasible.

Can I nominate someone else for support?

Yes. We understand that many people struggle quietly, and sometimes a friend, teacher, coworker, or family member recognizes a need first. Thoughtful nominations are welcome.

Do you only provide financial assistance?

Our primary focus is small, practical support that helps relieve immediate stress during difficult seasons of life. This may include grocery support, gas cards, school-related expenses, wellness supports, or other essential needs.

How do you decide who receives support?

Applications are reviewed thoughtfully and compassionately based on urgency, available funding, and how directly support may impact the individual or family’s situation. Because resources are limited, we may not be able to fulfill every request.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. We respect the privacy and dignity of every applicant and recipient. Personal information and stories are never shared publicly without permission.

How can I support this little light?

There are many ways to help:

  • Make a one-time donation

  • Become a Light Keeper (recurring donation)

  • Share our mission on social media

  • Organize a fundraiser

  • Donate gift cards or needed items

  • Partner with us as a local business sponsor

Community care grows when people help people.

Can businesses partner with this little light?

Absolutely. We welcome partnerships with businesses, schools, sports teams, and community organizations that want to help create meaningful local impact through sponsorships, donation drives, fundraising events, or collaborative initiatives.

Are donations tax deductible?

At this time, donations are not eligible for official charitable tax receipts unless and until registered charitable status is obtained through the Canada Revenue Agency. (We are in the process of this!)

Where does donated money go?

Donations help provide direct support to individuals and families facing hardship in our community. We strive to operate thoughtfully and responsibly so that the majority of funds go toward meaningful community impact.

How much support do you typically provide?

The amount of support provided varies depending on the situation, urgency, and available funding. Most grants typically range between $100–$400, though needs are reviewed individually and support may vary case by case. Our goal is to provide meaningful, practical assistance that helps relieve immediate stress during difficult seasons of life.

What is a Light Keeper?

A Light Keeper is someone who chooses to support the mission of this little light on an ongoing basis — through monthly giving.

Why focus on small acts of support?

Because small support can create a big impact. A grocery card, transportation help, school lunch support, or assistance during a crisis can provide relief, dignity, and hope during incredibly difficult moments.
