this little light provides small amounts of direct, practical support to people in Calgary and our approved service area who are facing financial hardship alongside a difficult life circumstance.
Your donation may help with groceries, transportation to medical appointments, overdue utilities, school costs, or another essential need that is not covered by existing programs.
Most approved requests receive between $100 and $400 in support.

What your donation can help provide
Support may include:
Grocery or household gift cards
Gas cards or transportation support
Direct payment toward an overdue utility bill
School supplies or essential costs for children
Limited health and wellness support
Other small, practical needs during a difficult season
Support is generally provided through gift cards or direct payment to a business or service provider rather than cash.
The type and amount of support depend on the person’s circumstances, our eligibility guidelines, and the funding available at the time.
How requests are reviewed
People applying for help are asked to explain:
The financial hardship they are experiencing
The difficult life circumstance affecting them
The specific support they need
Other resources or programs they have already tried
Relevant information needed to confirm eligibility
Applications are reviewed using a consistent assessment process.
More than one board member is involved in reviewing requests whenever possible. If the first reviewers do not agree, another board member may be asked to help make the decision.
We consider:
Whether the applicant lives in our approved service area
Whether they are experiencing financial hardship
Whether they are also facing a difficult life circumstance
Whether other appropriate supports have been explored
Whether the request fits our funding guidelines
Whether funding is currently available
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
How donations are used
Donations help fund practical support for local people experiencing hardship. This is our number one priority.
Donations may also help cover the basic costs required to operate this little light responsibly, including payment-processing fees, insurance, banking, website costs, and administrative expenses.
We work to keep operating costs low so that as much funding as possible can be directed toward practical community support.
We do not promise that every donated dollar goes directly to an applicant because some costs are necessary to collect donations, review applications, protect information, and operate responsibly.
Become a Monthly Lightkeeper
Lightkeepers are monthly donors who help make practical support more dependable throughout the year.
Regular gifts help us plan more responsibly and respond when an eligible request is approved.
You choose the monthly amount, and you can change or cancel your donation at any time.
Give once
A one-time gift helps us respond to approved requests as they arise.
Your donation will be combined with other gifts and used where it is most needed within our approved program and operating guidelines.
Every light counts.
A monthly gift does not need to be large to matter. Several smaller donations can come together to help cover groceries, transportation, utilities, or another practical need.
Thank you so much for your support!
We currently operate as a registered non-profit society in Alberta. Donations are not yet tax-deductible while we await CRA Charitable Status, but every dollar goes directly toward helping someone in need.
